6. Read 30 new books

A report on one of my items from my 30-before-30 bucket list.

Guys. I know I am not pre-30 anymore. In fact, I am fast approaching 32, but I was reviewing some of my 30 before 30 goals that I didn't finish and decided to renew some of them for a 2017 kind of bucket list of sorts. More to come on that...

It also just so happens that I have really been thinking a lot about a portion of a book I just finished which turned out to be my 30th book since I set this goal! (I know... I stopped reading regularly for nearly a year. It was not good). So... another goal complete... Plus some insight into choice in our lives:

I've been thinking a lot about the idea of what we "should" do, or where my life "should" be right now, because in some ways it's not where I want it to be. But the truth of the matter is, there is no "should." Because what is happening right now in each of our lives is exactly what "should" be happening purely because it is happening. I know that's all ridiculous philosophical ideas, but it has been so helpful for me to remember this.

From a religious perspective, I loved this blog post: "You're Not Messing Up God's Plan for You"

Now from the book:
"It doesn't matter if we don't mean to do the things we do. It doesn't matter if it was an accident or a mistake. It doesn't even matter if we think this is all up to fate. Because regardless of our destiny, we still have to answer for our actions. We make choices, big and small, every day of our lives, and those choices have consequences. We have to face those consequences head-on, for better or worse. We don’t get to erase them just by saying we didn’t mean to. Fate or not, our lives are still the results of our choices. I’m starting to think that when we don’t own them, we don’t own ourselves."
Taylor Jenkins Reid, Maybe in Another Life
So, here's to owning my choices and using them to create the consequences I want. To truly own my life.
