Election day

Tomorrow is election day in Idaho. Idaho primaries. In the state of Idaho, really the only say you get in the general election is actually in the primaries, because 99.9% of the time whoever gets the Republican nomination will win. So, primaries are a pretty big deal in Idaho.

I love the political process. I love the idea of having a say in how we are governed. I love the idea of democracy. However, I've learned that I see it through rose-colored glasses. I think that my vote matters. And more than that, I think that the politicians who say they are doing good and are honest and ethical really are.

News flash, Lacey! They aren't. I want people to do things for the right reasons. I want people to run for office so they can represent the people. I want them to keep their promises and I want them to be honest. But they don't and they won't. All the tactics employed in a campaign are simply that, tactics; a means to an end. And sometimes the end is the desire for a bigger paycheck. To hell with the people and their wishes. And forget about keeping promises.

I don't want to be cynical, but I have had an interesting view of this years election, and it troubles me. Nevertheless, I am once again left with options that are all imperfect, and I must choose one of them. It is my civic duty to have a say.

So, tomorrow I will dutifully
